Summer Camp
Our camp is designed so that it is incredible fun and suitable for children of primary school age. The children learn the basics of music theory and performance with teaching on a huge variety of instruments. There are several instrumental demonstrations throughout the week of learning; which the children enjoy.
While the entire week costs very little, there are family discounts available. [Contact us for more details on discounts]. The children get hands on experience of playing instruments including the drums, Guitars (acoustic, electric, bass etc.), Grand piano, Organ, Banjo, Violin, Cello - the list goes on. Performance and speech & drama are practised and taught throughout the week. The entire experience is extremely fun and interactive for all children with plenty of practical hands on learning. Please Note: Every year our Summer Camp completely books out within weeks therefore if you would like your child to have a place early reservation is essential. Many students find that they have either received too little guidance, failed to prepare adequately for their exams or just want to brush up on some theory prior to sitting the Leaving Certificate (LC) music examination. Fortunately, MAME are here to help.
We offer a comprehensive and student goal orientated grind course for LC music preparation. Through our grinds classes we give students a breakdown of previous examination questions, guidance on how best to approach and answer specific style questions, while also dealing with the core fundamentals of LC music. These grinds classes are crammed full of facts and learning. Students will find each class is intense but incredibly beneficial. Before commencing grinds, students will be asked to meet with their tutor for an informal chat to discuss their current study habits and level of knowledge. Core textbooks are not provided at this course. _____________________________________Musicianship SeminarsFor the student who has already mastered the basics, we offer a range of different classes which will explore the more advanced techniques. The aim of these seminars is improvement. Students who wish to perfect their craft are welcome. This is considered an advanced class and as such, will not suit beginners.
Different styles of play are taught in different seminars at different times and locations. Please contact us directly to book your place. _____________________________________Pop Music ClassesPopular music by definition belongs to a number of musical genres but has a wide appeal. The simplicity of popular music makes it a very attractive area of study for younger students. Students may be streamed into classes based on age, however, classes are not limited to the younger students.
Popular music classes encompass all the aspects of popular music including song structure, melody writing and backing chords, performance choreography and body language, the history and development of popular music, popular music from a global perspective, and musicianship. The use of technology in performance is also explored and students will learn how to set up stage equipment etc throughout the course. Students do not need to know how to play any instrument prior to beginning class. Several instruments are typically taught but the student may choose to focus on one particular instrument. |
Trad. Harp Seminar
The annual MAME traditional Irish Harp course runs throughout the summer. This popular course is aimed at students who have an interest in the Harp and would wish to better their knowledge and performance. The course is two weeks in duration.
Numbers are kept to a minimum and classes are streamed to ensure the optimum benefit for all students involved. Beginners are welcome.The course facilitates students of all levels of experience and proficiency. Anyone is welcome to the course, even if you don't have access to an instrument. Children and adults will not be in the same class. Students find this an interesting and an enjoyable course. Private lessons and tuition are available but places are limited. The Leaving certificate Music preparation course is divided into two or four semesters depending on whether the student is completing the 1 or 2 year program.
MAME make several learning resources available to our students including study notes, audio, instruments for practice, extra reading resources. Throughout the academic year feedback will be provided both to the student and to the parent/guardian. This feedback will encompass an evaluation of the students progress as well as specific advice on how best to improve moving forward. Students find our tuition and guidance is both effective and supportive. The students who partake in this program excel in their leaving certificate music examinations and many go on to pursue a career in music after their exams. There is a limited number of available places in this program. Places are allocated to students who show a strong desire to learn. Classes are streamed based on both the students academic ability and performance experience. Prospective students must sit an entrance examination to determine suitability and to allow for streaming prior to the commencement of teaching. _____________________________________MAME Rock School
"Rock Music" is generally considered a very modern and new genre of music. Rock is a form of popular music which has originated from rock and roll and pop music. This evolution happened in the middle to late 1960's. This particular genre of music is very energetic and typically younger students find this of great interest. MAME Rock School offers students the opportunity to study many different instruments with an emphasis on a specific genre.
The class has been formed to meet the ever growing demand for effective tuition in this style of music. Students typically study a variety of instruments including the electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, piano synthesiser and percussion. Music should always be creative and fun, as it is an art form. Students are encouraged to be creative and therefore other instruments are often used during the teaching. This class studies music with a particular emphasis on the genre of rock. However, the teaching is not limited to this genre completely, and the pieces studied are directed by student goals. _____________________________________Accordion Class
The MAME accordion classes and tuition have always been very popular. Students can learn their favourite tunes and pieces in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Both the button and piano accordion are taught at MAME.
Students do not need to own an instrument to partake. Our structured tuition will allow students to play their desired pieces in no time.
